Your adventure. Your health. Our research.

High-altitude tourism has increased steadily in recent years - whether in the Himalayas, the Andes, the high mountains of North America or Africa, the Caucasus or the Western Alps.

The likelihood of developing symptoms of altitude sickness is high. However, serious or even life-threatening cases can usually be avoided. Intensive research is being carried out in high-altitude medicine - but how does this knowledge reach high-altitude tourists and mountaineers? And how can it support them directly on site?

We are two students of medical informatics at the Bern University of Applied Sciences. For our bachelor's thesis, we are developing a mobile app in collaboration with Michael Furian's altitude research group at the University Hospital Zurich. This app will support mountaineers, hikers and mountain tourists on their tours at high altitudes and help to reduce health risks.

At the same time, the anonymously collected data will be made available for further research into high-altitude medicine.
